About the airport
Mungalalu North Kimberley Airport is the owner and aerodrome operator of the largest all-weather airport in the far north Kimberley, occupying 21 square kilometres of native-title land under lease with the Wunambal Gaambera Aboriginal Corporation.
MNKA is a CASA-certified Code 3 aerodrome with an 1,800m × 30m sealed runway. The airfield supports large jet aircraft through to small light aircraft, scheduled or charter fixed wing or rotary flights and offshore services.
Since 1987 the airport has grown through investment in infrastructure and people, delivering consistently high standards to a demanding oil and gas sector where safety is critical, while ensuring strong, sustainable outcomes for the Wunambal Gaambera people and surrounding communities.

Our purpose
Vision
To unlock Northern Australia by developing a strategically located multi-user logistics hub to benefit industry, local communities and the State, in alignment with the Wunambal Gaambera Aboriginal Corporation.
Purpose
To keep the North Kimberley moving. We provide the critical infrastructure and logistics that let industry, defence, government and community operate in one of the most remote regions on earth.
Our history
1944
Construction begins on a secret WWII airbase, named in honour of Squadron Leader Keith “Bluey” Truscott, lost in a training exercise over Exmouth Gulf aged 27.
1945
War ends; within seven months the 58 Operational Base Unit records its final diary entry and the base falls dormant.
1959
The Western Australian Government takes control of the facility.
1987
Commercial operations resume, 43 years after the base was built, through Triple A Air Services, then ShoreAir and Mungalalu Truscott Airbase.
