On Wunambal Gaambera Country.

Wunambal Gaambera people have cared for this Country for tens of thousands of years. They worked on the airfield built here in 1944. This remains a working partnership between us and the people whose Country it is.

Mungalalu North Kimberley Airport occupies 21 square kilometres of native-title land under lease with the Wunambal Gaambera Aboriginal Corporation (WGAC). Our vision is to unlock Northern Australia by developing a strategically located multi-user logistics hub that benefits industry, local communities and the State, in alignment with the WGAC, while ensuring strong, sustainable outcomes for the Wunambal Gaambera people and surrounding communities.

The heritage of the place is cared for jointly by the airport's operators and the WGAC, preserving the relics of the wartime airbase on Country that has been home for far longer.

The WGAC represents the Wunambal Gaambera people as native title holders of about 2.5 million hectares of the North Kimberley, from the Prince Regent River to Admiralty Gulf. Land and saltwater together are Uunguu, their living home, inherited from the Wanjina Wunggurr ancestors.

Country includes Ngauwudu (the Mitchell Plateau), Punamii Uunpuu (Mitchell Falls) and the Uunguu Coast, with the Corporation based at Kalumburu.
